The Help and Legal Centre of Northumberland Expansion

Through the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) The Help and Legal Centre of Northumberland received $150,000 for the expansion and renovation of its two agencies, The Help Centre and the Northumberland Community Legal Centre. On April 14, 2023, the organization celebrated its grand opening with the visit of MPP David Piccini, the OTF representative Paul Rosebush, members of the counsel, community members and partner agencies.

This grant has allowed us to add more offices, giving the staff of The Help Centre a well-ventilated, safe, and quiet places to confidentially meet with clients, as well as creating a dedicated room to accommodate clients required to attend virtual legal hearings for the Northumberland Community Legal Centre. This renovation also includes a much-needed board room to be used for client workshops, community meetings and other group activities.

The renovation will ensure that both agencies will be able to continue providing to the most vulnerable residents of Northumberland County with housing assistance, senior support, money management sessions, energy advocacy, ESL classes, preparation of income tax returns, rentsmart training sessions, completion of forms, legal representation in small claims court, public legal education, legal information and advice in Human Rights, Workers Compensation, Landlord and Tenant Board, among others.
